INJECTION MOLD AND TOOLING

Stack Injection Molding

Without changing your molding press or tonnage, a stack mold increases productivity and reduces your part costs by using a stack of multiple mold layers. Simultaneously closing all layers in the stack enables molding all parts, in all layers, in one shot. In addition, the molded parts can have a different geometry. A1 was one of the early innovators of stack molds in the 1960s, and our experience qualifies us as experts in stack molds.

Stack Mold Additional Features

Concerned about cost? Don’t be. Stack molds reduce the need for multiple molds and multiple presses, providing immediate and exponential cost savings.

    • Multi-cavity
    • Different geometry
    • Different sizes
    • Different fill rates
    • Modular capability – with interchangeable inserts, one stack mold can run multiple parts, further reducing mold costs.

A1 has refined stacks with proprietary self-supporting center racks and innovated all the little details that prolong the life of a stack mold. Not sure if your part qualifies for a stack? Contact us.

Stack molding example

The customer needed to increase throughput based on consumer demand for a plastic roof ridge vent. Rather than running two molds in different presses, A1 engineered a stack tool that virtually doubled capacity in a single press.

Large Increase in Capacity Example
  • Part Height: 2.8”
  • Volume: 52 cubic inches
  • Material: CO-PP
  • Part Weight: 772 grams
  • Projected Area: 664 square inches
  • Shrink: 1.018 inches
  • Total mold weight: 31,000 lbs.
  • External Mold Dimensions: 55”W x 68”H x 36”L
